Social Media Corner: September

September 03, 20246 min read

Hi, guys. Welcome back to Finding Your Indie. I'm Bonnie Paulson. I'm Mandie Stevens. We are here today for our September Social Media Corner.

We release these a week before the end of the month, every single month so you can schedule your month out.

We also do this in Boss Mode too, where we give you access to those three videos for the coming upcoming quarter, so you know what you're planning for the quarter instead of it being month by month. Either way you are getting access to this, whether you join our Hive Mind membership or do Boss Mode. That's all coming up because the new quarter is coming up. Check them out down in the links below.

All right, Mandie, what can we share in September? What are some things going on for September?

This one is super fun. It is National Lazy Mom's Day. It's the first Friday. It's a good excuse to relax and read a book. You can share with your readers. Hey, buy this for mom, or you are a mom, this is your excuse to buy yourself something.

I love that. And it's national. If you're not in the U.S., make it in your country. Good excuse to buy books for yourself. I love that.

On September 8th, we have International Literacy Day. That's a huge one. More books. You can ask people what their favorite book growing up was. You can go so many different directions with this one.

What's on the 14th?

National Cream Filled Donut Day.

Yes. What's your favorite cream filled donut?

Oh my gosh, I guess Boston, but I'm a glazed donut girl. I don't need the cream, but I guess maybe Boston.

There's a coconut one back home that they used to make that I used to get back in North Idaho. It's good. It's a cinnamon glazed donut, like a cinnamon roll, whatever. Then inside of it, there's coconut frosting. On top there's coconut white frosting with coconut on it. It's My favorite. I've never had it anywhere else. I've also had the stuffed s'mores ones at Gross Donut in North Idaho. Anything stuffed with marshmallow I'm sold with.

So, as you can see, we could ask readers what their favorite donut is, and that could spark a whole conversation.

That’s just one day, too. Mandie has some other great days. What's going on next?

I want to talk about asking your readers questions. Donuts don't necessarily have to do with your books, but it's just to get interaction on your page. We both know the more interaction on your page, the better it is for your ads. So, I just wanted to throw that in there.

That's awesome. That's a good point. It doesn't have to do with your book.

It does not have to have to do with your books.

September 19th is huge. It’s my daughter's birthday. She was born on International Talk Like a Pirate Day, but it's also National Woman's Friendship Day, which is a third Sunday every year. This is great for a women's lit. I recommend giving books to your best friend.

That's awesome. It’s also Wife Appreciation Day. Same day. Buy your wife a book. I do have a lot of male readers for my urban fantasy. Buy your wife some books.

Yeah. And read them.

Yes.

September 21st is World Gratitude Day. I love that. That's awesome. What would you do for that one?

What would I do? I would honestly not even do anything towards selling anything. I would just tell my readers how much I appreciate them.

Yeah. Me too. Just because it's so important. The world's so hard right now that just telling someone how you are grateful for them is huge. It's better than anything else you can do right now.

We are grateful for our readers, monetarily, but also because I'm creating stories and I know I want people to read my stories.

When you write a story and a reader gets you, that's your person. You found a tribe because I don't jive with all books, but the ones I do, I'm like, I would love to meet this author because I feel like our minds work the same way.

You built these worlds and it's like somebody's very gracious to them.

September 25th looks like a fun one.

Yeah. National ghost hunting day.

Ooh! Urban fantasy all the way. Urban fantasy, horror… I think it would be good for horror. Mystery would be good, too.

Yeah, so a lot of my books take place in St. Augustine, Florida, and they have ghost hunters there all over the place. So, it's a lot of fun. I would take it and tie it into my books because of that.

Mm hmm. I would, too.

September 29th is for me. You know how much I love my coffee.

Yes. National Coffee Day. I ask the readers how they take their coffee.

All right, we have National Day of Prayer, and we remember it’s September 10th through 12th. That's great, especially for Christian writers.

Yeah. Yeah, that's a good point.

Tolkien week. That'll be good. September 19th through the 25th. That's awesome. Yeah, I could tie that into my books.

Huge! Banned books week. September 26th through October 2nd. I think that's awesome. You could ask what's your favorite banned book, or you could post some banned books. Or, you can say, hey, mine should be banned.

I love that you added this, the Library Card Sign Up Month. I love that we have our library here in town. It's small, but it does a lot of things for its patrons. I think libraries are just completely undervalued these days, and they shouldn't be because you can get you can get all my books at the library. You can order them.

I was going to say if you're a wide author, you should definitely be pushing people to ask for your books at the library. That's one great way that people can get them, and they can get them in eBooks too. I still I sell a lot of eBooks to the libraries down in Australia.

That's awesome. I don't know why, but it works.

That's great. There was a time in my life when I, as a reader, went to the library all the time. I discovered authors, and then I turned around and things in my life changed. I bought those authors.

Yeah, exactly. Because you like them. I've done the same thing. I love it.

Is there anything else we need to add for September?

It's back to school month, and that's when moms, and dads, can start reading a little bit more. People definitely start reading more in September and August. Your reads will definitely start going up.

Yeah. That'll be exciting.

I love third quarter and fourth quarter. Because of all the marketing things, as we're getting ready for Christmas. So, if you're not quite sure what you're doing with your marketing and your ad strategy, check out Boss Mode.

It's coming up. We are gearing up for that with our first launch, and it's going to be massively fun and massively productive. It's going to be huge for your business.

All right, guys, don't forget hit like, and subscribe, join us for our nextSocial Media Corner, and we'll see you then.
